Acne Scarring
There are multiple options available for the treatment of acne scars. We are fortunate the options for acne scar management have improved dramatically over the past several years with the advent of new technology. While a complete cure is not possible, most of our patients can appreciate significant improvement. The options that are presently available include fractional resurfacing with the Fraxel laser (Re:store), ablative fractional resurfacing (Fraxel Re:pair), plasma resurfacing (Portrait), laser toning (CoolTouch III and Nd:YAG lasers).
The choice of treatment is based upon the types of scars and the characteristics of each individual patient. Some techniques have minimal to no downtime including the Fraxel Re:store laser, CoolTouch III laser, and the Q-switched Nd:YAG laser. More downtime is seen with the Fraxel Re:pair laser as well as the Portrait plasma device.
The treatment of acne scars is often performed in conjunction with the use of filler substances such as Restylane, Perlane, Sculptra, Juvederm, and collagen.
