What's New : New Lasers

Introducing ActiveFX

ActiveFX is a new and exciting addition to our center for skin rejuvenation. The ActiveFX is an ablative skin resurfacing laser with less wounding, downtime and risks than those lasers used in the last decade. The indications for use are wrinkling and looseness of the skin around the eyes, face, neck and chest. Some scars may be treated as well. After the treatment there is superficial wounding of the skin that generally heals within three to seven days. For more information on this laser, please call to schedule a consultation appointment with one of our physicians and you may also visit the website of the company who manufactured the laser at www.Lumenis.com

Fraxel Re:pair

The physicians at the Laser & Skin Surgery Center of New York ® are the most experienced in the world in the use of the Fraxel Re:Pair. The Fraxel Repair (CO2) laser was recently approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). Clinical trials performed at our Center were instrumental in approval by the FDA. This laser is for rejuvenation of the skin on the face and body. The laser works well for deeper wrinkles and scars and also tightens the skin. Healing generally takes place in five to seven days; however, this varies from patient to patient. For more information on this new technology, please call to schedule an appointment for evaluation and you may also visit the website of the company who manufactured the device at www.fraxel.com

Body Recontouring with Velashape™

The Laser & Skin Surgery Center is pleased to offer VelaShape™ treatment with the new VelaContour™ applicator, the first FDA-approved non-surgical solution for the temporary reduction of the appearance of cellulite, as well as temporary reduction of thigh circumference. VelaShape™ with VelaContour™ uses a combination of light (infrared) and bi-polar radiofrequency (RF) energies as well as vacuum suction, to manipulate the superficial fat tissue layer that contributes to cellulite and fatty deposits. The heat from the light and RF energies increases metabolism of this fatty layer and shrinks the size of fat cells.

Clinical studies of VelaShape™ treatments found average circumferential reduction in the treated thigh was 0.75 inch. Additional studies of VelaShape™ treatments found that approximately 90 percent of patients experienced an overall clinical improvement on the area treated, with about 94 percent of patients pursuing treatment of other body areas. Clinical trials in our practice are showing decreases in waist circumference in as few as 2 treatments. Multiple treatments are required and most patients experience redness on the treated area which resolves within hours to days.

To find out more about Velashape™ and to see if you are a candidate for the procedure, please schedule a consultation with one of our physicians.

New Treatment for Acne Sufferers

We are pleased to add the Isolaz pore cleansing acne treatment device as a service to our patients with mild to moderate acne. This light device utilizes suction and light to cleanse pores and reduce acne causing bacteria. The procedure is painless and requires several treatment sessions. For more information, contact our office to schedule an appointment for evaluation with one of our physicians and you may also visit the website of the company who manufactures the device at www.aesthera.com

Advances in Body Tightening and Lifting

The Laser & Skin Surgery Center of New York ® is pleased to be one of the first offices in the country to offer Thermage treatments with the new Deep ThermaTip™.  As one of the centers to perform the initial clinical trials with the Deep ThermaTip™, we are able to offer treatments before the tips will be widely released later this year. The Deep ThermaTip™ has been shown to improve mild to moderate skin laxity and sagging on the abdomen, thighs, buttocks,  legs and arms by heating the skin 79% deeper than the previous Thermage tips. The deeper heating results in deeper layers of collagen remodeling and significant clinical results 2-6 months following treatment. We were particularly impressed in tightening “grandma knees”, loose skin on the abdomen and “cigarette paper” type skin on the arms. Treatments were extremely well tolerated with no down time. To find out if you’re a candidate for the new Deep ThermaTip™, please book a consultation with one of our physicians.

Fractional Carbon Dioxide Laser (Reliant Laser) Receives FDA Clearance

The fractional carbon dioxide laser also known as the re:pair™ laser has been approved by the FDA and will soon be available for general use. This device is used for a procedure known as fractional deep dermal ablation. Much of the data presented to the FDA was generated from studies performed at our center. This device will be used for deeper lines, scars and significant signs of aging. We anticipate to offer re:pair™ laser treatments to our patients by late summer or early fall.

Fraxel - No More Blue!

There have been significant improvements in the new Fraxel laser over the past year. Most recently, the physicians at the Laser and Skin Surgery Center of New York ® have introduced a new “tip” to the Fraxel laser which does not require the application of blue dye. This has allowed for an easier treatment process for our patients and more uniform treatment outcomes.

The laser has also been modified to allow for high energy treatments which can be more helpful for deeper lines and wrinkles as well as acne scars.

Non-Surgical Tummy Tightening

Many people have come into the office requesting a tighter and younger looking abdomen, but they don’t want the downtime or general anesthesia associated with traditional abdominoplasty surgery.

We are now performing non-surgical tightening of the abdomen with Thermage, a radiofrequency device which allows us to achieve significant tissue remodeling. The device safely heats the deeper layers of the skin, resulting in collagen stimulation and contraction. The result is noticeable tummy tightening without surgery and without downtime. In most patients, only a single treatment is required. The procedure is performed in the office setting and is indicated for those patients with mild laxity or looseness of the skin.

Introducing Smart Lipo

There's a new FDA approved laser treatment called laser lipolysis that is now available in our office. Using a pulsed Nd:YAG laser (Smartlipo), small areas of excess fat and mild overlying skin laxity can be treated without the need for liposuction. Suitable patients must be otherwise healthy and in otherwise good shape. This is not meant to be a weight loss procedure. The laser is inserted through a small incision that heals without sutures. Mild swelling and bruising is possible for 1 week after treatment.

Investigation of this device took place in our office under the direction of Dr. Karen Kim.

Introducing the Fraxel®-2 (SR1500)

We are pleased to announce the addition of the Fraxel-2 (SR1500) to our list of lasers, light sources and radio-frequency devices. The Fraxel-2 is the latest version of the Fraxel laser (Reliant Technologies). It is an updated version of the original Fraxel laser which was first introduced for commercial use at our center in September of 2004.

The new Fraxel-2 laser is less painful and provides a faster treatment for most patients. Many of our patients are describing less redness and swelling following each treatment session as well.

The Fraxel-2 laser is indicated for the removal of sun damage, treatment of fine lines, acne scars, surgical scars, melasma, and other surfacing irregularities of the skin.

New lasers and devices added the Laser & Skin Surgery Center of New York ®

The Laser & Skin Surgery Center of New York ® continues to grow and add new technology that benefits our patients. These include the Rhytec portrait plasmakinetic device, the Cynergy laser, Titan laser and the Apogee laser. Our center has over 35 laser and/or technology devices.

Fraxel Skin Treatment

The Laser & Skin Surgery Center of New York ® is one of the first centers in the world to offer a revolutionary new laser treatment referred to as Fraxel skin treatment. In fact, more Fraxel laser treatments have been performed at our center than any other. This treatment allows for the improvement of fine and moderate wrinkles, sun damage, mild laxity, and melasma without the downtime that is associated with standard resurfacing techniques. The advantage of this procedure is that wounding does not occur and there is generally minimal to no down-time for the patient.

New Hope for Melasma

Melasma is a common condition affecting many women and some men. This condition is commonly seen during and after pregnancy and amongst women taking birth control pills. Our Fraxel laser is a safe new method of improving melasma in most patients.

New Lasers Added to Our Center

Over the past several months we have added the following lasers to our center: Fraxel, Gemini, MedLite 6 Q-Switched Yag, Starlux IPL, GentleYag, and Cynergy
