Lenox Hill not only begins with Bloomingdales but has charming tree-lined streets bordering its handsome row of brownstone houses, giving residents access to all of the city’s urban amenities as well as the look and feel of a residential neighborhood.

History of Lenox Hill

Lenox Hill is named after the hill that once stood on 70th Street and Park Avenue. “Lenox” came from the name of Scottish immigrant, Robert Lenox, who purchased 30 acres of land spanning Fifth to Fourth (Park) Avenues and from East 74th to 68th Streets for a farm in 1818. Robert Lenox’s son, James Lenox, divided most of the land into blocks of building lots, which he sold during the 1860s and 1870s. He also built the Lenox Library, now the site of the Frick Collection.

Incredible meals are within easy reach, thanks to Lenox Hill’s diverse dining options.

Diners can enjoy authentic Thai dishes at Up Thai’s 70-seat dining room decked in mosaic lights and floral embellishments. In addition to Pad Thai, must-try dishes include Green Curry, Crispy Spring Rolls, Green Papaya Salad, and Tom Yum Soup.

Boqueria is a popular tapas bar that puts the spotlight on Catalonia’s local flavors. Classic Spanish small plates feature the season’s best ingredients. Tapas to share include Paella de Mariscos and Gambas al Ajillo (shrimp with garlic) paired with house-made sangria or lightly sparkling cava.

J.G. Melon has been serving some of the best patties in NYC since 1972. The burgers are griddled until they’re crispy on the outside but soft and blushing in the middle, pairing well with the onions and pickled cucumbers on the side. Their cottage fries are a crowd favorite too.

With over two million works of art spanning 5,000 years, including paintings, sculptures, costumes, instruments, architecture, and armor, divided among 17 curatorial departments, the Metropolitan Museum is one of the largest and most comprehensive art museums in the world. Initially designed as a leisure getaway for urban dwellers visiting Central Park, Central Park Zoo gradually developed over the decades as a zoological garden that builds natural habitats in urban environments. Today, the 7-acre zoo is home to penguins, snow monkeys, sea lions, snow leopards, red pandas, and brown bears, giving kids and adults the opportunity to experience wildlife in the middle of a concrete jungle.

The Roosevelt Island Tram is an aerial tramway spanning the East River and connects Roosevelt Island to Manhattan.
