Radiesse

radiesse in new york

Radiesse is a dermal filler and collagen stimulator used for improving the appearance of deeper wrinkles, including nasolabial folds. It can also be used for some types of acne scarring and to enhance the facial contour. This product has become very popular among dermatologists as patients are seeking nonsurgical methods of anti-aging and natural-looking skin rejuvenation. Radiesse injections are performed after application of a topical anesthetic agent, and the injection can usually be performed on the day of consultation. Radiesse involves the injection of calcium hydroxylapatatite (CaHA) particles suspended in a hyaluronic acid gel. With this product, there is some immediate improvement due to the hyaluronic acid injection. However, there is also a gradual and longer-lasting result, as the CaHA microspheres form a “scaffold” which stimulates collagen production in and around the treated areas. Over time, the gel carrier is absorbed and replaced by the body’s own collagen. Results last approximately one year.

All of our physicians at the Laser & Skin Surgery Center of New York have extensive experience with fillers and injectables. We are leaders in the field of cosmetic dermatology and the largest users of fillers and injectables in the world.

How does Radiesse Work?

Radiesse works deep into the dermal layers to restore support lost due to collagen depletion. Collagen is a protein found in the dermal structure that gives the skin its smooth, supple appearance. Over time, our bodies produce less collagen, leading to skin laxity and wrinkle formation. By restoring that support, Radiesse effectively reverses some signs of aging to refresh and rejuvenate the appearance.

Radiesse contains an ingredient unique to this particular filler. Calcium hydroxylapatite (CaHA) particles suspended in a hyaluronic acid gel provide immediate improvement in wrinkles and facial contouring as the product works as a traditional filler. However, the CaHa particles also trigger the body to produce more collagen, leading to long-lasting, natural improvement.

Do Radiesse Injections Hurt?

Most patients find their Radiesse treatments n to be very comfortable, due to the application of a topical numbing cream before the procedure begins. Injections are done by needle or blunt-tipped cannula and take just a few minutes to complete. You can return to your regular activities as soon as you leave our office.

When Will I See Results?

You will see improvement in your wrinkles immediately following your treatment. There may be some mild swelling or bruising around the injection sites that will interfere with your final result. But once the skin heals fully, which usually only takes a day or two, the full results become apparent and will last for up to 12-18 months, thanks to the collagen boost that occurs in the months following your procedure. If you have any questions about filler prices or results, talk to your dermatologist at your consultation.

How Long is the Recovery Time After Treatment?

You should be able to return to your activities immediately following your Radiesse treatment. Your dermatologist may give you specific aftercare instructions to ensure the best possible results. It is not unusual to develop a bruise at the injection site, so plan your treatment accordingly to give your skin time to heal before a major social or professional event. To minimize bruising, our doctors can perform topical or laser treatments after your injections.

Do Men Receive Radiesse Injections?

Yes. Radiesse and other dermal fillers are a popular treatment among men and we treat male patients routinely at the Laser & Skin Surgery Center of New York. According to the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, more than 15,000 men received calcium hydroxylapatite injections in the US in 2018.

Men often have different goals when they come in for dermal fillers. The difference in skin texture and thickness also needs to be taken into account when treating men. Our dermatologists have the expertise and experience to ensure both male and female patients achieve results that look natural while improving their appearance.

Questions and Answers

Q: Is Radiesse Safe?

A: Yes, Radiesse has a proven track record of safety and success. The FDA approved Radiesse in 2006 as a safe and effective treatment for moderate to severe facial lines and creases. In 2018, more than 227,000 people had treatments using calcium hydroxylapatite like Radiesse.

Q: How Long Do Results Last?

A: You will see immediate improvement after your Radiesse injections. Those results will last from 12 to 18 months, as the particles in the filler boost collagen levels over time. You can maintain your refreshed appearance indefinitely with regularly scheduled treatment sessions.

Q: What Does Radiesse Treat?

A: Radiesse works best on static wrinkles, which are the lines that form as a result of collagen depletion in the dermal structure. This typically includes lines around the nose and mouth, such as nasolabial folds, marionette lines, smile lines, and chin wrinkles. Radiesse can also be used to add youthful fullness to areas like the midface to enhance the facial contour. Finally, Radiesse is an effective treatment for restoring subtle volume to the hands, reducing the appearance of bulging veins and wrinkles.

Q: Are There Any Side Effects?

A: Side effects from dermal fillers like Radiesse are uncommon and temporary if they do occur. Some patients might experience slight redness, swelling or bruising around the injection sites, which typically subsides within a day or two.

Q: Will My Face Look And Feel Unnatural?

A: When treated by a licensed and trained injector who has expertise in facial anatomy, like the board-certified cosmetic dermatologists at the Laser and Skin Surgery Center of New York, you can expect subtle, yet impressive results. No one should notice you had a treatment unless you choose to tell them. In addition to the initial improvement, you will see gradual enhancement in the months following your procedure as collagen levels increase. You’ll still look like you, just younger and refreshed.

Q: Is Radiesse Right for Me?

A: Radiesse is typically recommended to our patients that have moderate to severe static lines around their nose and mouth or have lost facial volume. It can also help our patients that have noticed a loss of volume in the hands due to aging and sun damage. The filler is safe and effective for all skin types and tones. We encourage you to schedule a filler consultation near New York City to find out if Radiesse is the right choice for you.
