Juvederm Voluma

Juvederm Voluma is a hyaluronic acid dermal filler used for volume restoration and facial contouring in the cheeks and midface. The filler is injected into the dermal layers to restore volume and reduce signs of aging. In addition to adding volume and definition to the cheekbones, this treatment can add a subtle lift to the midface and even reduce the appearance of early jowl formation.

All of our physicians at the Laser & Skin Surgery Center of New York® have extensive experience with fillers and injectables, including the Juvederm line. Our physicians performed several trials for the use and development of these fillers and injectables in our clinical research department. We are leaders in the field of cosmetic dermatology and the largest users of fillers and injectables in the world. Our board-certified dermatologists are proud to offer an extensive collection of fillers near you in New York City.

How does Juvederm Voluma Work?

Juvederm Voluma works deep into the dermal layers to restore support lost due to collagen depletion. Collagen is a protein found in the dermal structure that gives the skin its smooth, supple appearance. Over time, our bodies produce less collagen, leading to skin laxity and wrinkle formation. By restoring that support, Juvederm Voluma restores fullness to the midface, adding definition and lift that also can improve the appearance of early jowl formation along the jawline.

Hyaluronic acid is a natural substance found in the body. It helps the dermal structure to retain moisture and volume. When hyaluronic acid is placed into the dermal structure, it produces smooth, natural skin rejuvenation from the inside out.

Do Juvederm Voluma Injections Hurt?

Juvederm Voluma is administered using a very fine needle or a blunt-tipped cannula, depending on the specific treatment area and the amount of filler needed. Most patients find the procedure to be quick and relatively comfortable. If you are concerned about discomfort during treatment, talk to your doctor about the application of a topical numbing cream before your procedure begins. To learn more about Juvederm Voluma, watch our recent webinar video.

When Will I See Results?

You will see an increase in fullness in the midface immediately following your treatment. There may be some mild swelling or bruising around the injection sites that will interfere with your final result. But once the skin heals fully, which usually only takes a day or two, the full results become apparent and will last for up to 2 years.

How Long is the Recovery Time After Treatment?

After treatment, you should be able to resume your normal activities. There is minimal downtime and your dermatologist may give you specific aftercare instructions. Sometimes a bruise occurs because of the needle’s contact with the skin, so plan accordingly with your personal and professional obligations. We offer laser and topical treatments for bruising to minimize its effect. To learn more about filler prices, downtime, and expected results, talk to your dermatologist at Laser & Skin Surgery Center of New York.

Do Men Receive Juvederm Voluma?

Yes. Juvederm Voluma and other dermal fillers are a popular treatment among men and we treat male patients routinely at the Laser & Skin Surgery Center of New York. According to the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, nearly 62,000 men received hyaluronic acid fillers in the US in 2018.

Men often have different goals when they come in for dermal fillers. The difference in skin texture and thickness also needs to be taken into account when treating men. Our dermatologists have the expertise and experience to ensure both male and female patients achieve natural-looking results that improve their appearance.

Questions and Answers

Q: Is Juvederm Voluma Safe?

A: The FDA approved Juvederm Voluma in 2013 as a safe and effective treatment for age-related volume loss. In 2018, more than 2.5 million people had treatments using soft tissue fillers, including Juvederm Voluma. Hyaluronic acid fillers have a long track record of safety and success in the US.

Q: How Long Do Results Last?

A: You will see immediate improvement after your Juvederm Voluma injections. Those results will last up to two years, depending on how quickly your body absorbs the hyaluronic acid. You can maintain your refreshed appearance indefinitely with regularly scheduled treatment sessions.

Q: What Does Juvederm Voluma Treat?

A: The most common reason to undergo Juvederm Voluma treatment is to restore volume in the midface that tends to diminish over time. By adding filler in this area, we can increase fullness, improve definition, and even reduce early jowl formation along the jawline by lifting the midface.

Q: Are There Any Side Effects?

A: Side effects from dermal fillers like Juvederm Voluma are uncommon and temporary if they do occur. Some patients might experience slight redness, swelling or bruising around the injection sites, which typically subsides within a day or two.

Q: Will My Face Look And Feel Unnatural?

A: When treated by a licensed and trained injector who have expertise in facial anatomy, like the board-certified cosmetic dermatologists at the Laser and Skin Surgery Center of New York, you can expect natural results that are not obvious to everyone around you. Because Juvederm Voluma contains hyaluronic acid, which is found in the body as well, your filler will integrate into your dermal tissue to create subtle improvement. You’ll still look like you, but with a more youthful facial contour.

Q: Is Juvederm Voluma Right for Me?

A: Juvederm Voluma is typically recommended to our patients that have lost youthful volume and definition around the cheeks and midface. The filler is safe and effective for all skin types and tones. We encourage you to schedule a consultation in our office to find out if Juvederm Voluma is the right choice for you.
