The dermatologists at the Laser and Skin Surgery Center of New York can treat various types of stretch marks with laser therapy. The lasers used to treat stretch marks include Fraxel, Pulse Dye, PicoSure and others. Our physicians can help determine the best type of laser to treat stretch marks.

Stretch marks can happen for numerous reasons throughout one’s life. While stretch can vary in appearance, they are a type of scar tissue that can occur with pregnancy, weight gain, weight loss, or other causes. Treatment can fade the intensity of stretch marks. Results vary for each patient.

Stretch marks that appear in the teen years or early 20s should be treated as early as possible, using a pulse dye laser or broadband light therapy to achieve the best possible results. Please schedule a consultation with our office so that we may determine the most optimal stretch mark treatment options.

How is this treated?

Pulse Dye Lasers like Vbeam Perfecta and Vbeam Prima effectively treat the redness associated with stretch marks.

Fractional Resurfacing stimulates collagen production to create smoother, line-free skin from the inside out.

Fraxel Re:pair® reduces the appearance of stretch marks by stimulating the body’s own healing process and producing a mild skin tightening effect.

Fraxel Dual® combines the regenerative effects of Fraxel with ablative laser surfacing for even more dramatic improvement. In addition to stretch marks, Fraxel lasers treat a variety of skin concerns including wrinkles, sun damage, acne scars, surgical scars, burns scars, unwanted pigmentation, and melasma.

When Will I See Results?

It depends on your treatment plan. You may start to see improvement 4-8 weeks following your procedure. However, most patients won’t experience their final result until a week or two after treatment. Those results should last between 4 and 6 months.

How Long is the Recovery Time After Treatment?

Most patients don’t need any recovery time, but taking proper care of your skin is important. Wearing sunscreen and proper garments to protect from the sun can help results last longer. Make sure you plan your treatment around any upcoming events to ensure your skin is fully healed. Your doctor may also give you specific post-treatment instructions to aid your healing and enhance your results.

Questions and Answers

Q: What Causes Stretch Marks?

A: Stretch marks are caused by the rapid stretching of the skin due to pregnancy, weight loss/gain, weight lifting, among other reasons. The skin stretching causes the elasticity to break.

Q: How Long Do Results Last?

A: Results can last up to 10 years if you take proper care of your skin after treatment.

Q: Will I Experience Any Pain During Treatment?

A: Our treatments are quick, non-surgical, non-invasive and pleasant. Our professional staff will ensure that you are comfortable and relaxed during every treatment with us.

Q: Are There Any Side Effects?

A: Side effects are uncommon and usually mild and temporary when they do occur. Some patients might experience swelling, peeling or redness around the injection sites for two or three days. Make sure you give your skin time to heal before exposing to the sun or extreme elements.

Q: How Long Is Treatment?

A: Treatment times are very short, around twenty minutes, and the stimulation of collagen growth will last for several months after treatments. Multiple treatments are necessary and are usually recommended two or three times per week for the duration of your recommended treatment schedule. Results from stretch mark fading treatment sessions will vary from patient to patient. At your consultation, our staff can give you a better idea of how many treatments you will need to achieve your desired results.

Sagging Skin

The skin’s underlying structure degrades over time, leading to skin laxity and sagging skin. Collagen, the essential protein in our skin, begins to decline as early as our 20s, leaving skin without support from within. Restoring collagen helps to restore the skin’s youthful vitality.

wrinkle and fine lines treatment in new york

Wrinkles

Wrinkles are a common and unwanted sign of aging. As you age, your body produces less collagen, creating saggy and wrinkly looking skin. Our customized strategies to combat wrinkles include laser resurfacing, dermal fillers, and wrinkle relaxers.

Brown age spots

Age spots and brown spots (also known as sunspots, liver spots, and lentigines) are a consequence of aging and sun exposure. The most effective treatment for eliminating these spots and other skin pigmentation is laser therapy, which usually includes little to no downtime after treatment.
