What is botox?
Botox is a medication dermatologists use to improve the appearance of wrinkles, such as those between the eyebrows, crow’s feet, and forehead.
Botox is one of the most extensively studied dermatology treatments and is approved for cosmetic use in 78 countries. The safety and efficacy of Botox have been evaluated in many clinical trials, including more than 400 peer-reviewed articles in scientific and medical journals. Many of these trials were performed here at the Laser & Skin Surgery Center of New York within our research department.
How does Botox Cosmetic Work?
When Botox is injected into a muscle, the muscle temporarily relaxes for up to 3 to 4 months. Expertise is required to deliver a natural-looking appearance and prevent a “frozen” look.
There are many reasons why some people look artificial while others look beautiful and we are keenly aware of those differences when we treat our patients. The goal is to simply look better, relaxed, and rejuvenated. You should not lose the ability to show normal expression or be yourself.
Treatment from a qualified injector is essential for natural-looking Botox results. While a medspa may offer discounted Botox prices, these clinics are rarely operated by experienced physicians. The board-certified dermatologists at Laser & Skin Surgery Center of New York offer patients unmatched skill and precision to achieve a beautiful, natural look with Botox.

Does Botox Cosmetic Treatment Hurt?
When Will I See Results?
Cosmetic benefits become noticeable within the first few days with full results becoming apparent after about a week. Benefits may last up to 4 months with a single treatment.
How Long is the Recovery Time After Treatment?
After treatment, you should be able to resume your normal activities right away. Your dermatologist may give you specific aftercare instructions to ensure proper healing and optimal results. Sometimes a bruise occurs because of the needle’s contact with the skin, so plan accordingly with your personal and professional obligations. To learn more about Botox, visit fda.gov.
Nefertiti Neck Lift
The board-certified dermatologists at Laser & Skin Surgery Center can also use Botox in New York City for the Nefertiti Neck Lift procedure. This involves placing injections at precise locations along the platysma muscles and the jawline to relax the muscles and create a smoother, more youthful neck and sculpted jawline.

Do Men Receive Botox?
Yes. Botox has been intensively studied in men and we treat men routinely at the Laser & Skin Surgery Center of New York. According to the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, more than 1 million cosmetic procedures were performed on men in the United States in 2014. The number of cosmetic procedures for men increased by 273% from 1997 to 2014.
There are different approaches when treating men versus women, and our dedicated dermatologists take these differences into account during every treatment. Our goal is to create a naturally enhanced appearance with each of our patients.

Questions and Answers
Q: Is Botox Safe?
A: Yes. In 2002, the FDA approved Botox as a temporary aesthetic treatment for moderate to severe frown lines. It rapidly became one of the world’s most recognized brands, approved for use in 98 countries. It is a successful treatment when dosage, needle placement, and frequency are all performed correctly. As with any cosmetic treatment, always work with a medical practitioner and experienced injector to ensure the best results, like our aesthetic experts at the Laser and Skin Surgery Center of New York. For the safest treatment and best results, you should never get injections at non-medical spas, parties, salons or someone’s home. Other neuromodulators such as Dysport, Xeomin, and Jeuveau are all FDA-approved as well.
Q: How Long Do Results Last?
A: You may begin to notice results within 24 to 48 hours, but it can take up to 2 weeks for final results. The effects of neuromodulators will usually last between 3 and 5 months. Scheduling another treatment as the effects of your first begin to wear off will help maintain your results. Repeated Botox treatments also reduce the worsening of fine lines and wrinkles and can prevent some from appearing altogether.
Q: Do Neuromodulators Treat All Wrinkles?
A: No. Neuromodulators work best on dynamic wrinkles, which are the lines caused by repeated facial expressions. Botox, Dysport, Xeomin, and Jeuveau all work on wrinkles that deepen when facial muscles contract, such as crow’s feet and frown lines. Wrinkles produced by loose, sagging skin, like nasolabial folds, will not respond as well to neuromodulators. We typically treat these lines with injectable dermal fillers.
Q: Are There Any Side Effects?
A: While side effects are uncommon, some patients may experience minor complications for 2-3 days. Symptoms might include headaches, slight pain, swelling or bruising at the injection sites.
Q: Will My Face Look And Feel Unnatural?
A: When treated by a licensed and trained injector with expertise in facial anatomy, like the board-certified cosmetic dermatologists at the Laser and Skin Surgery Center of New York, you can expect subtle, yet impressive results. No one should be able to tell you had a Botox treatment unless you choose to tell them. The goal is to use enough toxin to improve fine lines and wrinkles, while still allowing patients to maintain their natural facial expressions. You’ll still look like you, just younger and more refreshed.
