What is Dysport?
Dysport is a medication dermatologists use to improve the appearance of some types of wrinkles, such as those between the eyebrows and in the outer corners of the eyes. Dysport has been extensively studied in many clinical trials with data published in numerous scientific and medical journals. With a proven track record for both safety and efficacy, Dysport is one of our most popular anti-aging treatments at the Laser & Skin Surgery Center of New York.
How does Dysport Work?
When Dysport is injected into a muscle, the muscle temporarily relaxes for up to 3 to 4 months. As muscle activity is reduced, the appearance of wrinkles caused by the muscle is also diminished. Expertise is required to deliver a natural appearance and prevent a “frozen” look. Our goal is to ensure our patients look younger, relaxed, and rejuvenated. You should not lose the ability to show normal expression or be yourself. It’s you, only better.
Do Dysport Injections Hurt?
Many patients compare Dysport injections to a skin pinch. If you are concerned about your comfort level, your dermatologist may apply a topical numbing cream before administering your injections. Talk to your doctor about any concern you might have prior to your treatment.
When Will I See Results?
You may begin to notice improvement within the first few days after your treatment, but full results won’t become apparent for a week or two. Most patients enjoy their refreshed appearance for around four months. Regular treatment sessions will continue your improvements indefinitely.
How Long is the Recovery Time After Treatment?
You should be able to return to your activities immediately following your Dysport treatment. Your dermatologist may give you specific aftercare instructions to ensure the best possible results. It is not unusual to develop a bruise at the injection site, so plan your treatment accordingly to give your skin time to heal before a major social or professional event.

Do Men Receive Dysport Injections?
Yes. More than 450,000 men underwent treatment using neuromodulators like Dysport in 2018, according to the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery. Dysport has been extensively studied in men and we treat men routinely at the Laser & Skin Surgery Center of New York. Men require a slightly different approach to the treatment, and our dedicated dermatologists know how to produce results for men that are both natural and masculine.
Questions and Answers
Q: Is Dysport Safe?
A: Dysport was approved by the FDA for the temporary treatment of forehead wrinkles and frown lines in 2009. When Dysport is used correctly in terms of needle placement and dosage amounts, it is both safe and effective. Like any cosmetic treatment, it is essential to work with a medical practitioner and experienced injector to ensure an optimal outcome. Our aesthetic experts at the Laser and Skin Surgery Center of New York have expertise in facial anatomy, as well as extensive training in neuromodulators, equipping us to provide you with superior results with minimal risk involved. For maximum safety, never get injections at non-medical spas, parties, salons or someone’s home. Other neuromodulators such as Botox, Xeomin, and Jeuveau are all FDA-approved as well.
Q: How Long Do Results Last?
A: Dysport results can start to appear as early as 24-48 hours after treatment. However full results may take 1-2 weeks to develop. Most patients enjoy their improvement for 3-5 months. You can schedule a subsequent session as the effects begin to subside to maintain your results. Regular Dysport treatments can also prevent lines and wrinkles from getting deeper and may ward off the appearance of others completely.
Q: Do Neuromodulators Treat All Wrinkles?
A: Neuromodulators are primarily designed to treat dynamic wrinkles, which are lines that form when you make certain facial expressions. Dysport, Botox, Xeomin, and Jeuveau relax the facial muscles that form many of the lines in the upper face, such as crow’s feet, horizontal forehead creases, and frown lines. Wrinkles caused by skin laxity and volume loss, such as nasolabial folds, will not respond well to neuromodulators like Dysport. We see more success addressing these lines with injectable dermal fillers in many cases.
Q: Are There Any Side Effects?
A: Side effects are rare and usually temporary if they do occur. Some patients might experience headaches for a day or two. There can also be slight pain, swelling or bruising at the injection sites for 2-3 days.
Q: Will My Face Look And Feel Unnatural?
A: As long as you work with a licensed and trained injector like the board-certified cosmetic dermatologists at the Laser and Skin Surgery Center of New York, you can expect results that are both subtle and natural. Your family and friends won’t know you had a cosmetic treatment unless you choose to tell them. We have the experience and expertise on how to use just enough toxin to improve fine lines and wrinkles while ensuring patients maintain their natural facial expressions. You’ll still look like you, just refreshed and wrinkle-free.
Q: When Should I Start Getting Anti-Wrinkle Injections?
A: There is no set age for Dysport treatments. We recommend scheduling a consultation with our office so we can assess you in person and determine whether Dysport is the right choice for you.
