The removal of tattoos is best performed with laser treatments. Laser treatment typically requires multiple treatment sessions and the response to this treatment is variable depending upon the colors of the tattoo, age of the tattoo, and pigmentation of the patient. The Laser & Skin Surgery Center of New York utilizes various lasers for tattoo removal. Different lasers are necessary to treat the various colors within a tattoo. These include the Q-switched ruby (3), Q-switched Alexandrite, Q-switched Nd:YAG, Fraxel Re-store, Fraxel Dual, and Fraxel Re-pair lasers.
Typically, a local anesthetic is administered to minimize any discomfort during the treatment. Repetitive treatment sessions are usually necessary. We generally treat our patients at 1-2 month intervals. Tattoo removal and all other procedures at our center are performed by physicians only.
