Can Dermal Fillers Help Reverse Acne Scars?
Acne scars are not curable, but dermal fillers can improve their appearance by reducing their size and depth. Fillers fill in and lift depressed scars by replacing lost volume to create a smoother appearance.
Laser & Skin Surgery Center of New York’s board-certified dermatologists have expertise in scar removal and injectable treatments. With skill and precision, their ability to treat scars with dermal fillers and other modalities helps patients achieve optimal results.
Do dermal fillers work for acne scars?
Similar to how fillers can be injected into the skin to plump up and smooth lines and wrinkles, dermal fillers may lift depressions in scars and alter their contours to create smoother skin.
Hyaluronic acid fillers like Juvederm® and Restylane® are used as scar fillers too. They plump up the skin and raise depressed areas, while poly-L-lactic acid fillers like Sculptra® trigger the body to produce collagen and gradually improve the appearance of acne scars over time.

Are the results permanent?
Dermal filler results for acne scars are temporary. Depending on the type of filler used, the treatment will need to be performed at regular intervals to maintain results. The length of time between treatments varies from patient to patient.
More severe acne scars often require a variety of treatment modalities for optimal results. Fillers can be combined with radiofrequency microneedling or laser therapy to enhance their results.
