Brow Lift

Age and gravity can lead to noticeable changes in the forehead and upper face. Skin becomes lax, resulting in the formation of deep creases and furrows. The brow line can begin to fall, giving you a perpetually weary or angry appearance. Changes can even occur to the upper eyelids, causing them to droop and even impair vision at times.

The board-certified plastic surgeon at Laser & Skin Surgery Center of New York performs brow and forehead lifts to raise eyebrows and reduce ridges and furrows on the forehead, thus creating a smoother, more youthful appearance. Our surgeon has extensive experience and training and can customize your procedure to your precise needs for the best possible outcome. A brow lift is often combined with eyelid surgery to further enhance the results.

What does a brow lift treat?

A brow lift can address many aging concerns in the upper face, including:

  • Skin laxity
  • Deep creases and furrows on the forehead
  • A drooping brow line
  • A sagging upper eyelid
  • A perpetually weary or angry appearance
  • Impaired vision due to sagging upper lid

How does a brow lift work?

Brow lifts can usually be performed using local anesthesia with sedation, although general anesthesia may be recommended in some circumstances. Your surgeon will create an incision across the top of the head from the front of one ear to the front of the other ear. The incision will be within the hairline to minimize visible scarring afterward. Through the incision, the forehead and brows are elevated and excess skin is removed. The flap is then sutured.

When less correction is needed, a brow lift can sometimes be performed endoscopically. This technique uses much smaller incisions, an endoscope, and special tools to make the correction with less trauma to surrounding skin and tissue. The procedure can be done using local anesthesia and recovery time is generally shorter and more comfortable.

    What is recovery like?

Antibiotics may be prescribed for several days following surgery. Sutures are generally removed within one week. Swelling and some bruising may occur, they should subside within a few weeks. Our doctors will prescribe ice compresses and eye exercises to reduce swelling and regain mobility. Eye makeup is allowed about two weeks after surgery. You can resume daily activities within 1-2 weeks.

    What results can I expect?

Brow lift results are evident once the recovery process is completed and improvements can last 10 years or longer.
