Platelet-Rich Plasma Treatments
Platelet-rich plasma is a natural way of rejuvenating the skin that works with your body’s own processes to refresh the dermis from the inside out. Platelets are the components in the blood that support the body’s healing processes. They are rich in growth factors, which trigger cell renewal, collagen production, and new tissue growth.
When they are intentionally placed into a treatment area, the regenerative and restorative effects can be profound. The growth factors help to reverse early signs of aging, restore healthy radiance to the complexion, and promote new hair growth. Platelets can be introduced into the dermal tissue through a microneedling procedure or direct injection into the hair follicles.
PRP for Hair Restoration
Hair loss occurs when the hair follicles become dormant and stop growing hair. Injections of PRP into the scalp can stimulate the follicles to make them function once again. In addition to treating hair loss, this treatment can create thicker, stronger hair over time. This treatment may be effective on both male pattern baldness and female pattern hair loss.
Unlike transplants, PRP injections are nonsurgical and can be performed with just a topical anesthetic. The procedure also leaves no visible scarring behind to show that you had a procedure performed. Hair will start to grow in naturally in the weeks and months following your procedure.
What is a PRP Treatment Like?
The PRP treatment is a multi-step process that can be completed in a single visit to our office. The procedure begins with a typical blood draw to collect your blood platelets. The blood taken is placed into a centrifuge, which separates the platelets from the rest of the blood. The platelets are then prepared by our staff for the second part of your treatment.
If you are receiving PRP for skin rejuvenation, the platelets will be placed on the skin topically. A microneedling device will be run across the treatment area, delivering the platelets deep into the dermal tissue where they can have the greatest effect. The depth of the treatment can be adjusted based on the severity of your concerns and the goals you wish to achieve.
A PRP treatment for hair loss involves injections of the platelets directly into the scalp. Our physicians place injections strategically to ensure the platelets can reach the greatest area and have an optimal effect. There is no downtime after either of these procedures.
When Will I See Results?
Some patients see improvement as early as two weeks after the procedure. However, most will require 3-6 months to see the full effects come to fruition. The changes will be gradual, so it should not be obvious to others you had a procedure performed.
How Long is the Recovery Time After Treatment?
There is no downtime after a PRP treatment for the skin or the scalp. YOu might notice some slight swelling or bruising around the injection sites if you are receiving a hair restoration treatment. Patients that undergo microneedling might also see some mild swelling and skin redness. Symptoms typically resolve within a day or two.

Questions and Answers
Q: Who is a Good Candidate for PRP Treatments?
A: PRP is an excellent option for men and women who are beginning to notice the early signs of aging and wish to undergo nonsurgical skin rejuvenation that works on the skin at a cellular level. The treatment is minimally-invasive and while results take some time to develop, they can be long-lasting.
Men and women dealing with hair thinning or baldness may also be good candidates for PRP treatments. Our experienced, board-certified physicians are happy to meet with you in person to determine whether PRP is the right treatment choice for you.
Q: How Long Do Results Last?
A: Because PRP works at a cellular level to stimulate natural body processes, the results can be very long-lasting. Actual results vary from patient to patient. Some may find that regular touch-up sessions keep them looking and feeling their best.
Q: Is PRP Safe?
A: PRP is an extremely safe procedure because it is nonsurgical and it works with the patient’s own blood. There is no concern over rejection or an allergic reaction. Side effects are mild and temporary and risks are extremely rare when the procedure is performed by an experienced, board-certified physician.
Q: Are There Any Side Effects?
A: Side effects after PRP tend to be mild and temporary. You might have some mild swelling, skin tenderness, redness or bruising, which usually only lasts a day or two. Your physician will provide you with instructions on how to care for the treatment area as it heals.
Q: What Type of Results can I Expect from my CoolSculpting Treatment?
A: Results from a PRP procedure are gradual and natural. You will see improvement in the skin or growth of new hair in the weeks and months following your treatment. In many cases, the results last months or even years. Patients can also schedule regular touch-up sessions to maintain their new look indefinitely.
